Shokunin kishitsu.

Shokunin kishitsu.

I first learned the words “shokunin kishitsu” in the film Jiro Dreams of Sushi — a visually stunning film that is as much about finding and living a life’s purpose as it is about sushi.

The Japanese phrase roughly translates to “the craftsman’s spirit.”

It is about pouring not just your hands and your heart into a project, but also a part of your soul.

I have found it to be a concept I can apply in all areas of life — from my work, to my household chores, to exercising.

When I bring my full attention and focus into the task at hand, I find so much more fulfillment and the results of my efforts are equally apparent.

It’s the subtle difference that makes something made with love so much more delicious. The combination of intention and passion is palpable — it's an energy you can feel in the end result.

When I give myself fully to a task, I don’t just see the difference. I feel the difference.

Always begin with intention.
